spin-stabilized levitation

This is where the hidden history of the levitron pages were.

The pages that were here were removed after Fascinations threatened to sue the university and me, Martin Simon. The pages were written by Mike and Karen Sherlock who had them posted on their website, which used to be called www.levitron.com. After a business dispute between the Sherlocks and Bill Hones of Fascinations, the levitron domain was given to Bill Hones and Fascinations who have a registered trademark on Levitron.

Part of the hidden history document was about who actually invented the spin stabilized magnetic levitation. In interviews and published locations Bill Hones claimed to be the inventor. However, investigations by myself and others found that the idea was invented and patented by Roy Harrigan. I first reported this in 1997 in a paper published in the American Journal of Physics which is posted here.

I posted the Sherlock's story here to preserve some of the historical documents and links included in the story, so that people could read the original documents and decide for themselves. I will restore the links to the source material as soon as possible.
